Clean vehicles: The lion goes green
Le 28 january 2010
At the last Brussels Motor Show, Peugeot signed two Letters of Intent agreements with Veolia and Greenwheels, two companies operating in Europe, concerning the purchase of electric vehicles and the development of mobility services. In addition, a partnership was sealed to join the European EVA (Electric Vehicles for Advanced Cities) project, a consortium bringing together over 20 European cities, automobile manufacturers, electricity suppliers, as well as research institutes. Peugeot, the world’s leading French make in terms of 2009 number plate registrations and a player committed to electric vehicles, has reason to rejoice for over 2,000 orders have been taken for the Peugeot i0n, the electric vehicle to be commercialised by the make in October 2010. These agreements demonstrate Peugeot’s will to position itself as a major player in mobility services and to capture a significant share of the electric vehicle market that the make estimates will represent, by 2015, 1.5 to 3% of the private vehicle market for all makes and car types in Europe, depending on different scenarios. Still at the Brussels Motor Show, Peugeot launched the Eco Cup, the first European challenge in support of eco-driving. In 18 European countries, four candidates will take part in four vehicles: 207 HDi 90, 308 HDi FAP 110, 3008 HDi FAP 110 and 5008 HDi FAP 110. Their aim will be to drive 1,000 km whilst consuming the least possible fuel. Registrations for the Peugeot Eco Cup are open to all drivers until 10 February, on Peugeot’s 18 national web sites. Strictly equal in weight per model, the 72 vehicles will set off from Paris on Sunday 28 February, destination Geneva, via a compulsory circuit to be completed in a minimum of 30 hours and a maximum of 36 hours.
