Spain: A new export team

Le 28 january 2010

Spain: A new export teamSince 2008, the main French public actors in aid to export (including Chambers of Commerce) have strengthened their collaboration to hitch up foreign trade figures in France – given the difficulties we are all familiar with. Spain, the world’s 17th exporter, has also needed to go further in drawing its troops together. A mission accomplished since 13 January: the Upper Council of Chambers of Commerce (Cámaras), the Spanish Exporters and Investors Club and the Association of Renowned Spanish Brands have now created the Employers’ Committee for Internationalisation (CEI). “This instrument aims to become a permanent platform for analysing and developing proposals, in view of reinforcing the internationalisation and competitiveness of Spanish companies,” indicates the Upper Council of Chambers of Commerce in a press release. This public-private union was all the more necessary, according to Javier Gómez-Navarro, President of the Cámaras, given the weakness of “institutional coordination for approaching the great challenge” of the international market. Partners have set themselves three priority targets: defining the major hindrances to internationalisation; collaborating with the public administration in the development of improvement measures; organising internationally focused events to encourage new initiatives. The Spanish Minister for Industry, Tourism and Trade has received requests to “improve the approach of employers to innovation policies”, “reduce social tax contributions” and reform the employment market. Nothing new on this front.
