CCI reform
Le 3 june 2009
The law on the French Chamber reform seeking to give the bulk of Chamber power to 22 Regional Chambers may be adopted by the end of June. This reform, presented in November, is the object of inter-ministerial arbitration before being submitted to the State Council, then to the Parliament for voting by the end of June. Hervé Novelli, French Secretary of State for Trade, may close the file by validating the law as it was voted by the Chambers last November: 98 Chambers had voted in favour of it, 59 against, and 12 abstained. The 9-point counterproposal, put forward by Francis Cabanat, President of the Chamber of Alès, will not be taken into account. The latter claimed to lighten extra tax pressure entailed by the reform, estimated at 17%. The Paris Chamber, opposed to the reform after supporting it until voting time, has announced that it will not support Francis Cabanat’s 9 proposals, which, in its opinion, only benefits small Chambers.
