Sounding the alarm

Swissphone has distinguished itself as a major player in the domain of public security with its integrated solutions for professional alarms. Today, isolated workers can carry out their activities in full security, thanks to the company’s lone worker alarm system.

For lone workers (whether they be itinerant workers or workers on construction or industrial sites), Swissphone Trio is an all-in-one solution, winner of a prize at the Preventica Lyon 2009 trade show: “An emergency call, automatic or manual, is sent out immediately in the event of an accident. From this moment, efficiency and speed in bringing aid are increased by the fact that the accident can be visualised, when
occuring outside, thanks to GPS localisation, as well as inside buildings thanks to radio beacons,”
explains Jürgen Niederer, Head of the Mobile Protection Business Unit at Swissphone.
In concrete terms, when a worker falls victim to an accident, an attack or a heart
attack, to give just a few examples, he can press on an SOS button sending details
of his location through an emergency call. If the person is immobile or unconscious, the emergency call will be triggered automatically. Transmitted by GPRS via the GSM network to pre-defined numbers, for example that of the team leader or the security service, this message enables aid to be summoned for the person in difficulty as efficiently as possible. “With its terminals linked to a server, the Swissphone Trio solution meets three key needs: sending an emergency call, localizing, and summoning aid. Compact, robust and reliable, designed to avoid false alarms, terminals can be managed by using a simple appli-cative interface provided by Swissphone via a liaison with the ASP Rhodos server, which also provides the system’s traceability. According to procedures in place, the provision of aid, in-house or external to the company, is thus facilitated,” observes Gérard Honoré, Executive Vice-President
of the French subsidiary since 2006. One of the first users of the Swissphone Trio solution is a Swiss hydraulic energy production company which appreciates the linking of a service offer with a product offer.
A major industrial player in public security founded over forty years ago in Switzerland, the Swissphone group firstly distinguished itself in the domains of radio messaging alerts and alarms. The public security sector has greatly evolved in recent years. Clients have increasingly higher expectations and are seeking systems that are more complex and more reliable. “It was on the basis of this observation that we changed our positioning: in the past, we offered products only, today, we bring clients integrated and simple-to-use solutions, for public security as well as services and industry,” recalls Gérard Honoré.
The Swissphone group employs close to 300 people, with over fifty of these working in R&D. In 2009, the group achieved a consolidated turnover of 50 million euros. Its structure is based on four Business Units that reflect the way in which clients are organised: Products, Solution, Command & Control and Mobile Protection & Services. This multiplicity of skills enables Swissphone to allure clients operating in extremely diverse fields, from public security and defence – fire fighters, emergency medical services, civilian protection, maritime surveillance, police – to industry and services.
