Air-hybrid revolution

At a time when alternative solutions respectful of the environment are emerging in greater numbers, the Scuderi Group still manages to surprise us with a particularly
innovative air-hybrid engine. This is an advance that will no doubt please many a manufacturer.

Recuperating energy lost by a vehicle to make its engine run – now there’s an ingenious and economical concept that will help preserve the environment. The Scuderi Group, a company specialised in research and development for innovative vehicle technologies has transformed this idea into its pet project. “We have developed a unique air-hybrid engine that today interests the largest automobile manufacturers in Europe,” reveals Lutz Deyerling, Vice-President of European Operations for the Scuderi Group.
This special engine is touted as the internal combustion engine that is the least fuel-hungry ever to be manufactured. Compared with an electricity-based hybrid solution, the difference comes to thousands of euros per vehicle. “With our product, there is no need to weigh yourself down with complex systems of generators or batteries. Furthermore, it is precisely the restrictions linked to this type of equipment that have prevented electrical solutions from taking off.” This solution also avoids all necessary expenses that accompany measures for protection against electric power, a must for vehicles using this type of energy. Added to a cut in costs is a plus in environmental terms. Emissions of harmful gases are cut by 80%, compared with a reduction of only 50% for hybrid electric technology. Similarly, in terms of mileage, the air hybrid engine comes out far ahead. “Potentially, mileage is doubled.”
Another advantage lies in the engine’s design, which offers greater ease of maintenance. This technology allows manufacturers great liberty in the conception of cars and motors. Its innovation is the most significant advance in motor performance in over 130 years and offers the advantage of being transposable to all internal combustion engines. “ It is perfectly possible to replace an original engine with Scuderi air-hybrid technology.” Considering the promises made by the air-hybrid engine, Scuderi has made no secret of its intention to extend its operations on the European continent. The company is carrying out discussions with 16 of the world’s 20 major automobile manufacturing names. The negotiation of licences with some of these is already underway. “Today we are established in Europe, notably Germany, France and Italy. The extension of our European headquarters in Frankfurt will allow us to pilot our European activities with the automobile industry and the financial community in view of our initial public offering.”
2008 brought an abundance of developments. Several phases of tests were carried out with an independent laboratory, and results have exceeded expectations by far. Air-hybrid engine should allow considerable fuel savings to be made while massively reducing toxic gas emissions compared with traditional and hybrid vehicles currently used. To date, the trademark portfolio of the Scuderi engine consists of 62 trademarks in approval phase and 35 already registered in over 50 countries. In July 2008, the company registered the trademarks of 5 extra key inventions in the motorisation domain, further improving the profitability and reliability of the systems. Scuderi has managed to surround itself with highly competent partners, world-renowned in specific domains. “It is primordial to be accompanied by the top experts if we wish to play a central role in tomorrow’s automobile industry. By relying on the exceptional skills of specialists such as Bosch Engineering, the Scuderi air-hybrid engine development team has every chance of giving birth to one of the jewels of automobile engineering in terms of precision.” With this engine, a mechanical system will now supplement the habitual chemical functioning. This engine is compatible with numerous fuels, from diesel to bio-diesel, as well as ordinary petrol. As a result, a wide range of vehicles stands to gain from this development.
Of course, cars are the primary focus, but the technology is also completely adapted to tractors, trucks, buses… Motorisations, from the lightest to the heaviest, can benefit from this progress. The Scuderi air-hybrid technology can also be used in fixed applications, such as generators, in which electric hybrids are considered inappropriate.
